Start Your Motor and Come to Downtown Cary for Annual Car Show
Today is last day to register hot rods, antique cars at reduced rates
CARY, NC – Toot Toot, Hey, Beep Beep! Cars of all shapes, sizes and designs will roll onto Academy Street in Downtown Cary as part of the Town’s second annual car show, Wheels on Academy. Vehicles will be on show May 18 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m rain or shine, and will have the chance to win trophies for numerous categories: Best Custom, Best Foreign, Best Orphan and Best of Show. Car enthusiasts and car clubs have until 11:59 p.m. today to register their cars at the early registration fee of $10; cars can be registered the day of the event from 7-9 a.m. for $15 per vehicle.
“Take a break from inspecting the variety of vehicles and check out our Take-A-Park Model T demonstrations,” said Sarah Hagan, Downtown Program Specialist. Hagan added that other event activities include live, local entertainment, car-themed kids’ crafts, and vendors selling auto-inspired artwork.
As a result of the event, drivers should be aware of temporary road closures in Downtown Cary on May 18. The Town will close S. Academy Street from Chatham Street to Dry Avenue as well as East Park Street from S. Academy Street to S. Walker Street. While inaccessible by vehicle, the Downtown Cary Library will remain open. The closures will be in effect from 7 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Free parking will be available just two blocks away from the car show at the Cary Town Hall Parking Deck next to the Herbert C. Young Community Center, 101 Wilkinson Avenue. Handicapped parking will be available at Cary Town Hall beside the railroad tracks and at the Cary Elementary School entrance on Kildaire Farm Road.
